U-Pick - Pick Your Own Fruits and Veggies

Sally and Mike open their ranch to guests for U-Pick on Sundays from 12 to 4 P M , August through October.

Available are organic apples,organic tomatoes and eggs from free- range chickens.

The kinds of apples that are available in season are Senshu, Honey Crisp, Zesta, William's Pride, Pink Lady, Mutzu, Orin, Pinova and Arkansas Black. Available in 2010 are Gold Rush, Wolf River, Enterprize, Candy Crisp, Northern Spy and Jonafree.

All of the apple trees are on dwarfing rootstock and are easy to pick. Guests will be shown how to pick the apples, and Mike and Sally will be on hand to explain how the trees are grown and cared for. Samples will be given out so that guests will know which apple they prefer.

The types of egg laying chickens are Frizzles, Arakanas, Coco Moorans, Buff Brahamas and Silver Wyandots. They are beautifully feathered and fun to watch. Their eggs are blue, tan, dark brown and white.

Besides picking apples and the many varieties of organic tomatoes, families may wish to play with the family dogs, visit the sheep, brush the milk cow, pet the tame black calf, and admire the chickens.

As Sally and Mike are deeply involved in the ranching community, there will be no lack of interesting topics, should guests wish to engage them in conversation about the state of agriculture in Marin County.
